How The Processing Of Credit Card Takes Place

Those banks that are members of the credit card association, which are affiliated with VISA & MASTER CARD, do give the underwriting services to the small merchants. The underwriting process involves the risk associated with it & proper evaluation of that & thus scrutinizing the customer payment history & previous business processing history & then finally giving approval for the credit card usage for the customer. Banks wants to confirm that applicants are responsible & committed to their business & liabilities arising out of that. Because merchant account processing are in a form of credit. Whenever the merchant receives the payments from credit card it is authorized cleared & settled by the merchant credit card processor.

At the end of the day the processor gets the transaction information & gives the funds after subtracting its processing cost incurred, into the merchant's checking account. Then it waits for the payment recovery from the merchant's card issuing bank. So at this instance, if the card holder or issuer of the card comes up with issue, asking for the charge back or saying that it is a fraudulent transaction, the processor is trapped & may not receive its money. Apart from that, if a merchant is generating consistently high volume of charge backs (more than 1 %), then the credit card association will fine the credit card processing company that has underwritten the account. Generally ISO's process the transactions for the merchants. They (ISO's) are licensed by the credit card association & have an affiliation with credit card processing banks.

At the time of signing the processing agreement, merchant bank commits to conduct the merchant's card transactions & funding the transaction amount deducted with processing costs. Most of the instances processing banks are card issuers also. To carry out the transaction, issuer of the credit card loads a payment into the system. During whole transaction the card supplier works as a broker. Credit card number & expiration dates give the owner of the card to authorize the transaction. When the transaction is completed, confirmation code is sent to the institution. Currently there are two ways available for the processing the amount. First is online & second one is offline. Offline Processing of credit cards: It is really a slow process, but the simple unlike the complicated online process & it is not necessary that you should have card with you at the time of processing. Due to this reason processing the offline transaction is much cheaper than online processing.

Processing Credit Cards Online (Real-time Credit card processing): Here the difference is in online processing, transactions are carried out immediately & reliably .The credit card owner does the transactions whereas the retailer gets them through an online merchant account. This online merchant account accepts the payment & then processes it. The processor of the credit card has a special account that ties to the mercantile account. Then the person over the counter verifies the owner of the card once the card is approved. Notification is sent to the owner & the amount due is billed to the credit card of the customer. It is lot more expensive to process the cards online, & it is also complicated process as well.
