Free Credit Card Machines

When it was first introduced, it was a dream to get a credit card business even with a monthly installment basis. But current situation has completely changed. Service providers are distributing credit card machines at free of cost to the merchants. This situation has made most of the merchants to go for it.

One would think that service providers have become so kind enough to give credit card machines for free. How they are going to cover the cost of these machines remains a big mystery for lot of us. As a merchant, if you get the correct sort of deal from the provider it can take your business a long way.  Otherwise it will be a big burden on your shoulders.

The service providers will have some conditions in giving these machines for free. One main condition is that the merchant should have a merchant account with them. So the new merchant account will give enough profits for the service provider to get the cost of the machine back at a very short time.

The other condition is that, the merchant will never own the credit card machine by his own. Ownership will be in the service providers hands and the merchant will be allowed to keep it as long as he deals with the service provider's credit cards and runs the merchant account with them. Once he stops dealing with them, the merchant suppose to hand over the machine back to the service provider. If he fails to do that the merchant account will not be closed at any cost.

Since the merchant does not own it, the maintenance cost becomes an issue if it is not properly defined in the agreement. Most of the cases, as the agreement turn out to be that if the terminal breaks down while in service and within the agreement period, the service provider will replace it immediately without or very less cost. But most of the service providers will charge the shipping expenses to make it even. But it should not be taken granted that this is the case always. There will be some cases this deviates from normal offer that carries special terms in the agreement.

Normal credit card machine offers will not come with free supplies too. Some very rear cases will offer the supplies also. But to see these will be the companies that have a very small market share and not doing that good in the field. Therefore it will not be wise to go for a free supplies plan with the service provider. Instead of that the merchants as well go for a service provider with good customer service and better rates. 

The main point to note in these offers is the ability to close the account at any time just by returning the terminal. Merchant should be able to close the merchant account with the service provider without any penalties or drawbacks of it. This should avoid one main hurdle of fee credit card machines.
