Wireless Credit Card Machines

Years ago, merchant accounts were only for companies that operated in a retail environment. Any other type of business was too risky for the hardware was too expensive. Today a lot has changed. Merchants are able to process cards in the retail environment but also on the internet. But, one of the largest changes that have been made is the ability to process payments wirelessly. Merchants who build their business and operate their company by traveling out of an office environment always had trouble processing payments. These merchants can now swipe credit cards and receive real-time approvals or declines without having to risk not getting paid. This can be performed anywhere there is a cell phone signal.

Wireless terminals work similar to retail machines with a couple differences. After the sale has been made, merchants swipe the cardholder’s credit card or debit card through the machine. The information is route wirelessly using cell phone antennas to the processing company. After it is received the information is then sent for approval or decline to the cardholder’s bank. After the transaction has been approved or declined it is then sent back to the processing company the routes the answer to the merchant’s machine. This all is done within a couple seconds. There is never any problem with not receiving an approval or losing money. After the transaction is approved, a receipt begins to print from the machines built in printer and is signed by the cardholders. The second receipt that prints is for the cardholder’s records.

Wireless processing does cost more than any other type of credit card processing. This is mainly due to the fact that merchants have to pay the monthly fee to process plus the monthly wireless fee, which is similar to that of cell phone service. The largest cost is the upfront cost of the machine. These machines can be purchased outright, leased or in some instances even rented.
